This is when a bowler deliberately bowls bad to keep his or her average low so that they may receive a larger handicap. |

Scratch |

The actual score the bowler makes with out any handicap adjustment. |

Six Pack |

Six consecutive strikes. |

Sleeper |

This is a rear pin that is not easily seen because of a pin directly in front of it. Examples of this are a 2 & 8 pin, 3 &
9 pin, or a 1 & 5 pin. |

Span |

Spare |
|
|
|
To knock down with the second throw the pins standing left after the first throw. |

Split |
|

Various combination of pins standing after a first throw where one or more pins has been knocked down creating a space between
standing pins and thus a harder spare. Examples: 4-5, 5-6, 4-7, 6-10, 7-10, 4-6-7-10. |

Spot |

A target embedded in the approach or lane. Commonly used for where the bowler stands on the approach and where the bowler aims on
the lane. |

Spot Bowling |

A method of aiming the ball in which spots or arrows on the lane are used as targets rather than looking at the pins during the
delivery. |

Straight Ball |
|
|
A ball thrown that takes a direct path to the pins without curving. |

Strike |

This is where you knock down all ten pins with the first ball. |

Strike Out |
|
|
Making three consecutive strikes in the tenth frame. |
